Thanks for taking the Meet 6 Neighbors challenge!

Having a connection with neighbors is vital for both individual and community wellbeing — and it starts with you. Whether you're just starting or already deeply connected, your actions matter. Here are some ideas on how you can connect with your neighbors:

  1. Leave a kind note.
  2. Join or organize a gathering.
  3. Say “Hi” and start a conversation.
  4. Volunteer to help your neighbors or community.

Already know your neighbors? Keep the momentum going by welcoming someone new, checking in on someone you haven’t seen in a while or helping others build those same connections.

Why it matters

Meet 6 Neighbors is a California campaign aimed at reducing social isolation, strengthening trust and boosting disaster resilience.

Research shows that knowing six or more neighbors is linked to better mental health, stronger community bonds and greater resilience in emergencies (Gallup 2023; Lim 2025). Yet, fewer Americans say they truly know or trust their neighbors (Pew 2025). This simple, evidence-based goal is a powerful step toward healthier, more connected communities.
